Artisan marketplace.

3-hour UI/UX sprint: verified artisans marketplace. Mobile, Figma, high-fidelity only. Build 2h 15m, then present and critique in class.

Duration

3 hours total. Phase 1: 2 hours 15 minutes (individual build). Phase 2: 45 minutes (product review and critique in class).

Challenge brief

Design a mobile application that helps Nigerians find and hire verified local artisans such as electricians, plumbers, mechanics, cleaners, and carpenters.

The platform should help users:

  • Search for artisans
  • View ratings and reviews
  • Book services
  • Make secure payments
  • Track service progress

Verified on profiles: verification badge, star rating, review count, and jobs completed in the user's area. You do not need admin or backend verification flows.

Your solution should prioritize: trust, simplicity, accessibility, usability, and a fast, clear experience.

Objective

This sprint evaluates UX thinking, product design skills, problem-solving, mobile UI execution, user flow structure, fast iteration, and design decision making under time pressure.

Tools allowed

  • Figma
  • AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.)
  • Plugins, icon libraries, design inspiration platforms

Final design decisions must be original and logical. Direct template copying without adaptation is not allowed. Be ready to explain every screen in Phase 2.

Required deliverables

High-fidelity only. No separate low-fidelity wireframe pages. You may think in grey inside the same frames, then move to hi-fi in one Figma file.

  1. User flow · Simple flow for the main journey (example: Home → Browse artisan → Profile → Book → Payment confirm → Track service)
  2. High-fidelity mobile UI · Up to 6 screens:
    • Welcome / Login
    • Home
    • Artisan profile
    • Booking
    • Payment
    • Service tracking
  3. Mini design system · Colors, typography, buttons, input fields, basic components (reuse on every screen)
  4. Clickable prototype · Core journey linked (minimum: Home → Profile → Book → Track; payment may be a confirmation screen)

Phase 2 · Product review and critique (45m)

  • Present your solution (time set by instructor)
  • Explain design decisions
  • Peer review and suggest improvements
  • Discuss UX and product tradeoffs

Important notes

Focus on clear user experience, realistic Nigerian usage, simplicity over complexity, strong product thinking, and functional interfaces. This is a product design sprint, not a visual decoration challenge. Do not add extra features (chat, wallet, insurance) unless they support the core booking journey.
